 LIVE PATIENT TOWER FEED

February 2012

Parking Deck
Construction continues on the fifth floor of the parking deck.  Because of some rain delays, the new date of completion is May 20.

Patient Tower
Construction is underway in the area next to the Outpatient Center.  Because the dietary hallway door is now blocked, staff must use the Outpatient Center main entrance to go outdoors.  A new sidewalk was put in so staff will not have to walk through the grass and mud to get to the Surgery Center and Professional Building. Mr. Kiser reported that selection of bedside monitoring equipment and furniture was underway.

OR Air Handlers
Mr. Forbes reported that drawings were being completed for the OR air handler upgrade. Since the OR cannot be shut down for the equipment upgrade, sections of the OR will be closed at various times. We know this will cause an interruption in OR services and we ask for everyone’s patience and cooperation.

Parking Lot
SMITH Northview Hospital will get a new parking lot in the near future.

Replacement Nursing Home
Lakeland Villa Convalescent Center in Lakeland, GA is to be replaced. The new facility will occupy the land next to the existing nursing home.  A project management firm, Adams, has been selected and preliminary processes are underway. The new, all-private-room facility is scheduled to open in 2013.

January 2012

Parking Deck
It was reported that level four of the parking deck is being poured this week.  Estimates are that we will be having a grand opening for the parking deck in about four months.

Patient Tower
Work is beginning on the new 5-story patient tower.  Pavement and shrubbery are being removed in the area adjacent to the Outpatient Center, and fencing has been installed around the worksite. We estimate this to be a 16-month process. View Live Feed of Patient Tower Project

Generator Building
Land is also being cleared for the generator building.  A portion of Cowart Street has been closed as a result of the construction. This project will be completed mid-November 2012.

Pearlman Cancer Center Infusion Expansion
The expansion of the Cancer Center infusion center project is on track to finish Phase 2 by the middle of March.  Once the new construction is completed, renovation of the existing infusion area will begin.

December 2011

Parking Garage
The 3rd floor of the parking garage is being poured.  The deck is progressing nicely, despite some rain delays. The new projected completion date is May 20th.

Cancer Center Infusion
The expansion of the cancer center infusion center project is on track to finish phase 2 by the middle of March.  Once the new construction is completed, renovation of the existing infusion area will begin.

Patient Tower Project
The construction phase of the patient tower will begin January of 2012. Construction trailers are being set-up near the Woodrow Wilson Drive detention pond. The first order of business will be the bridge that will span from the south tower to the new patient tower. Our completion time continues to be projected as March 2013. March 2011

Patient Tower
Six sites were evaluated before deciding on the current site, which is adjacent to the Outpatient Center. The front facing side of the building will face the rear of the library. A new centralized registration area for the OPC and the tower will be located in a front atrium-like area that runs the distance from the existing OPC over to the new structure. To enhance public perception, various site attributes including several green spaces and gardens with water features are proposed. Cowart Street will have to be moved closer to the Surgery Center and a retaining wall constructed to separate the street from the Surgery Center parking lot.

The main floor of the new construction will house the Dasher Heart Center diagnostics and cath labs. The second floor of the tower is proposed to house the Cardiac Progressive Unit. The third floor will house the CICU, and the fourth floor will house the M/S ICU. A specialized surgical unit will be on the fifth floor. Bridges will connect the new tower to the south tower, and maybe the west tower. The number of bridges depends on costs.

Currently, Collins Project Management is awaiting initial pricing from two construction managers and an outside project cost estimator. A menu of costs will be presented on March 24th and our executives and departmental stakeholders will go back to the table for final discussions.

Phase II Drainage Improvements
The drainage improvement project began on February 28th. The exterior row of parking at the Professional Building and Surgery Center are currently excavated. Large drain pipe is being installed. The lot will be resurfaced for parking when the drainage project is completed.

Parking Deck
Ground will be broken for the parking deck around April 1st. Several rows of patient/family parking will be affected. To make up for this, some staff parking in the OPC lot will be changed to patient/visitor parking. Staff is asked to use Mathis and the open spaces at the Professional Building. Deck construction should be completed in early 2012.

Nursing Station Renovations
Renovations are currently underway on 3-west, 4-west and 5-west. Signage is posted to alert physicians and staff to the temporary nursing station locations. Renovations are making way for more computers to facilitate CPOE.

January 2011

Hydrology Project
The hydrology project was awarded to Reames and Son Construction. The project includes the enlargement of the detention pond beside the library and the installation of a 48-inch pipe to carry storm water into the Patterson Street culvert. With good weather, this project will be completed in several months.

Patient Tower
Meetings continue to determine the size of the tower. Input has been received from all departments who will relocate to the tower. Until the best use of the backfill space and the size of the tower can be determined, it will be challenging to come up with a budget. Two construction management firms have been selected to provide Guaranteed Maximum Pricing (GMP) for the project.

Parking Deck
The Building and Grounds Committee and the Hospital Authority approved a construction contract from Hardin/Cauthan Construction for a 5-story parking deck. A kick-off meeting will be held with Hardin/Cauthan the last week of January.

Pearlman Cancer Center Renovation
The flooring, cabinetry and painting in the cancer center should be completed in three to four weeks. The renovation includes a remodel of the public restrooms and new furniture for the lobbies.

Greenleaf
Projects are underway at Greenleaf to improve the HVAC system and correct moisture damage caused to some outside walls. This $1.5 million dollar project will greatly improve the aesthetics and comfort at Greenleaf.

November 2010

Patient Tower
On October 19th, the Hospital Authority approved the Patient Tower architectural contract with Gresham Smith (Jacksonville, FL). Representatives from Gresham Smith were in Valdosta to sign the contract on October 21st. If all goes as planned, the groundbreaking for the tower construction will be next Fall.

Outpatient Imaging Center
Outpatient Imaging Center construction began Monday October 11th and is to be completed within 175 days. Mr. Hembree announced in the MOC meeting that instead of using our funds to construct the Imaging Center, we will be issuing a small number of bonds. Interest rates are currently so low it is smart for us to finance the Imaging Center in this manner.
Parking Deck:  The Hospital Authority also approved the construction of a Parking Deck on the west side of the main building. The deck will occupy most of the land between the west wing of the main building and Patterson Street. The deck will extend over the detention pond and into one lane of the visitor parking lot.

Pearlman Cancer Center
The face lift renovations (paint, flooring and furniture) for the Cancer Center will begin this week. We hope to complete this project by year end. The Cancer Center Infusion addition is still a work in progress. Drawings are close to completion and ready for pricing.

Outpatient Imaging Center
The Hospital Authority of Valdosta and Lowndes County announced recently that Cauthan Construction was awarded the contract to construct the interior of the new Outpatient Imaging Center, which will be located on the ground floor of the Professional Building. Emphasizing the state-of-the-art technology, convenience and service, the Outpatient Imaging Center will incorporate a dedicated Women's Imaging Center, offering the latest in digital mammography, stereotactic imaging, ultrasound and bone densitometry. SGMC will also offer PET/CT, CT, nuclear medicine, digital radiography and fluoroscopy in the new facility. The estimated time of completion is March 2011.

Pearlman Cancer Center
Because of growing volumes in our Cancer Center, the Buildings and Grounds Committee of the Hospital Authority approved a plan to add treatment space to the PCC by enclosing two courtyards. The Cancer Center will spread into the old IS area and the courtyard outside IS and Medical Records. The small courtyard outside the exams room is also being retrofitted. The goal is to add over 6,000 square feet of treatment space and double the number of infusion chairs for our cancer patients.
