Lung Nodule Clinic
SGMC Health recently launched the Lung Nodule Clinic, a specialized center focused on the early detection and treatment of pulmonary nodules, which are often the first indicators of lung cancer. This clinic expands SGMC Health’s lung care services and reflects our commitment to innovative, patient-centered care.
Expert Team & Multidisciplinary Approach
The clinic brings together pulmonologists, radiologists, thoracic surgeons, oncologists, and a dedicated lung navigator to ensure seamless coordination and personalized care.
Screening & Eligibility
Patients may qualify for low-dose CT lung cancer screening if they:
- Are between ages 50 to 77
- Are current smokers or quit within the past 15 years
- Have a 20 pack/year smoking history
Screenings are available at SGMC Health Main, Lanier, and Berrien campuses, making access convenient across the region. If areas of concern are found, a biopsy is scheduled.
Robotic-Assisted Biopsy with Ion Technology
SGMC Health is the first in the region to offer robotic-assisted lung biopsies using the Ion robotic bronchoscopy system. This advanced technology features an ultra-thin, flexible catheter that navigates deep into the lungs, allowing for:
- Minimally invasive procedures
- Faster diagnosis
- Improved access to tissue samples
- Enhanced patient outcomes
