Hospital Authority


As a community hospital, an eight-member Hospital Authority governs SGMC Health. Both the City Council of Valdosta and the Lowndes County Board of Commissioners appoint the representatives who serve on the Hospital Authority. Each group appoints four representatives who each serve a 5-year term. Hospital Authority members are community leaders who serve the hospital voluntarily without compensation.

The Hospital Authority of Valdosta and Lowndes County, Georgia has the ultimate decision-making responsibility for SGMC Health and is subject to the Hospital Authorities Law of the Code of Georgia.

Board of Trustees and Committees

The time, place, and dates of the regular meetings of the Board of Trustees and Committees of the Hospital Authority of Valdosta and Lowndes County, Georgia are as follows:

Board of Trustees
Time: Immediately following the South Georgia Medical Center, Inc. d/b/a SGMC Health, Board of Directors meeting, as necessary.
Place: The Executive Boardroom of South Georgia Medical Center, Inc. d/b/a SGMC Health located at 2501 North Patterson Street, Valdosta, Georgia 31602
Dates: The third Wednesday of each calendar month

Location Change: The regularly scheduled Hospital Authority Board of Trustees Meeting on April 17, 2024, will be held at SGMC Health Berrien in the Administrative Building at 1221 E. McPherson Ave in Nashville, Georgia, 31639, immediately following the South Georgia Medical Center, Inc. d/b/a SGMC Health Board of Directors meeting.

Finance Committee

Notice of Called Meeting: There will be a called meeting of the Hospital Authority Finance Committee on Tuesday, April 16, 2024. It will be held immediately following the South Georgia Medical Center, Inc. d/b/a SGMC Health Finance Committee meeting in the Executive Board Room at SGMC Health, 2501 N Patterson St in Valdosta.

Matters Expected to Come Before the Committee:
Executive Session:
a) Considering any potentially commercially valuable plan, proposal, or strategy that may be of competitive advantage in the operation of the Hospital Authority or its medical facilities and which has not been made public. [O.C.G.A. § 31-7-75.2]


The Board of Trustees or a Committee of the Hospital Authority of Valdosta and Lowndes County, Georgia may postpone or cancel a regular meeting at its discretion.

Executive sessions of the Board of Trustees or a Committee of the Hospital Authority will be closed to the public.
