SGMC CardioVascular Institute
The SGMC CardioVascular Institute opened in Valdosta in July of 2014. Cardiothoracic Surgeons Randy Brown, MD and Joe Johnson, MD and Vascular/Endovascular Surgeon Maurice Solis, MD, relocated from Macon, GA to take the regionally recognized cardiac surgery program at SGMC to the next level by expanding the scope of procedures and maintaining a comprehensive local practice. Seven nurses, surgical assistants, technologists and other members of the Macon medical practice moved to Valdosta to continue a lasting and progressive working relationship. The CVI is located in expansive new offices on the second floor of SGMC’s Professional Building and features vascular ultrasounds on site.
With more than 70 years of combined experience, Drs. Brown, Johnson, and Solis have performed more than 29,000 procedures.
The practice specializes in open heart surgery including coronary artery bypass and valve placement; surgical treatments for lung cancer and lung diseases; and vascular surgery including surgical and catheter based stents related to carotid arteries, aortic aneurysms and circulation problems with the legs (PAD).
