You may have trouble urinating at first. Your bladder may be numb for a few hours after delivery.
Suggestions:
Ask for help your first time out of bed to empty your bladder
Sit comfortably on the toilet
Try listening to the sound of running water in the sink or pour warm water over the perineum, if you feel burning in your stitches
Try urinating in a tub of warm water
If you are unable to urinate in the hospital, a catheter (small tube) may be temporarily inserted to empty your bladder. It is generally removed 8-12 hours after insertion.
