SGMC Health is proud to announce the arrival of the Siemens MAGNETOM VIDA 3 Tesla (3T) MRI scanner, marking a significant advancement in diagnostic imaging technology in the region. This state-of-the-art MRI system, equipped with Siemens’ BioMatrix Technology, sets a new standard for precision, comfort, and efficiency in MRI examinations.

Now patients at SGMC Health will benefit from the advanced capabilities of the scanner that takes into account each patient’s unique anatomy and physiology to deliver optimal image quality, ensuring more accurate diagnoses and improved patient outcomes.

SGMC Health Senior Vice President and Chief Operations Officer Randy Smith, expressed enthusiasm about the new addition, stating, “The 3T MRI scanner represents a significant investment in the health and well-being of our patients. The scanner boasts several features designed to enhance patient comfort and imaging quality.”

With its larger bore, wider table, and improved lighting, the VIDA system helps alleviate anxiety commonly associated with MRI scans. The unit is also quieter and gives each patient the ability to select their preferred music playlist while in the unit.

According to Smith, this technology opens up new possibilities for advanced imaging studies at SGMC Health. Patients will now have access to a broader range of diagnostic tests, including whole-body imaging and cardiac studies, which were previously unavailable locally.

Mark Hodges, Imaging Services Director, highlighted the potential of the VIDA system, stating, “The new software offers more customization and post-processing functionality than we previously had, allowing us to adapt to patient differences and decrease time-to-results. The 3T excels at small bone and joint imaging that had limited quality in the past enabling physicians to see more detailed structures in profile.”

SGMC Health has invested $16 million in imaging across its hospital campuses over the past four years, signaling a commitment to enhancing patient care and outcomes. For more information about SGMC Health and its advanced imaging services, please visit sgmc.org.
