Throughout the year, but especially during National Nurses Week, SGMC Health is proud to celebrate the invaluable contributions of nurses in providing compassionate care to patients across the region. Direct patient care nurses comprise a third of SGMC Health’s workforce and serve as the heartbeat of healthcare delivery.

In recognition of their tireless commitment, SGMC Health released a heartfelt tribute video featuring physicians from various specialties expressing gratitude and admiration for the remarkable work of nurses throughout the organization. The video highlights the profound impact nurses make in the lives of patients, families, and colleagues each day.

“As we commemorate Nurses Week, we extend our deepest appreciation to the exceptional nurses at SGMC Health,” said Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer Cherise Giddens. “Their unwavering dedication to delivering high-quality care is truly inspiring. We are privileged to have such compassionate and skilled professionals on our team.”

In addition to honoring nurses within the organization, SGMC Health invites the community to join in the celebration by sharing their personal stories of how nurses have positively impacted their healthcare experiences. Individuals are encouraged to submit their stories online at health.sgmc.org/nurses to recognize the extraordinary contributions of nurses and express gratitude for their compassionate care.

“We recognize that nurses are not only healthcare providers but also trusted companions and advocates for patients and their families,” added Giddens. “Their expertise, kindness, and unwavering support make a profound difference in the lives of those they serve. We encourage everyone to take this opportunity to share their stories and celebrate the incredible nurses in our community.”

National Nurses Week, observed annually from May 6-12, commemorates the birthday of Florence Nightingale, the founder of modern nursing. It serves as a time to honor and appreciate the dedication and contributions of nurses to healthcare worldwide.
