Hemorrhoids

Hemorrhoids are swollen veins either inside or outside the rectum. Pushing during the birthing process may cause hemorrhoids to become larger, however they usually disappear or get smaller within a few weeks after delivery.

Suggestions:
Apply ice to your hemorrhoids during the first 12 hours after delivery to reduce pain and swelling
Use warm or cool soaks, ointments and cold witch hazel compresses to relieve pain and swelling
Avoid constipation; discuss the use of stool softeners with your caregiver
Lie on your side when resting and avoid standing or sitting too long
