SGMC Announces Updates to Services Post Hurricane Idalia

Posted on: August 31st, 2023

SGMC continues to operate under its emergency operations plan due to the impact of Hurricane Idalia on Valdosta and the region.  All hospital campuses have continued uninterrupted operations, but due to unsafe roadway conditions and power outages we have limited access to clinics. We continue to offer services to urgent and emergent patients only until; these conditions improve.

At this time the following services are accessible as described below:

  • Emergency Services and Inpatient Services at Main, Smith Northview, Berrien, and Lanier Campuses are open 24 / 7.
  • SGMC Urgent Care will reopen tomorrow on Sept. 1 from 9am-7:45pm
  • Necessary Imaging Services (except for mammography) and Walk-in Lab will be provided at the Professional Building beginning Sept. 1, 7:30am-5pm

The following services have been POSTPONED or RESCHEDULED:

  • Most non emergent and elective testing, procedures, and surgeries will resume on Sept. 5.
  • SGMC clinic appointments will resume on Sept. 5.

SGMC’s remarkable team of Employees, Physicians and Volunteers have committed to serve the needs of our region throughout these unprecedented conditions. We love the communities we serve and are ready and willing to do so regardless of the challenge. SGMC operates a multitude of clinics and outpatient services across Lowndes, Berrien, and Lanier counties. Our teams are working hard to ensure that all services are restored to normal operations by Tuesday, Sept. 5, (after the Labor Day Holiday).

SGMC reminds residents that hospitals are not shelter sites. Individuals seeking shelter are strongly encouraged to access their county emergency management agency shelter locations. And we encourage those dependent on home care and home oxygen devices to reach out to your service provider and secure needed supplies and ample quantities to serve your needs at home.
