Dr. Daniel Sohinki is a board-certified cardiac electrophysiologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of complex heart rhythm disorders. He sees patients at SGMC Cardiac Electrophysiology, located at 2409 N Patterson St, Suite 340A, in Valdosta, GA.

With advanced expertise in electrophysiology, Dr. Sohinki focuses on conditions affecting the heart’s electrical system, including arrhythmias that cause the heart to beat too fast, too slow, or irregularly. His clinical skills include catheter ablation, pacemaker and defibrillator implantation, and lead extraction—a highly specialized procedure performed in collaboration with cardiac surgeons to remove malfunctioning or infected device components.

Dr. Sohinki’s approach to care is deeply personal and patient-centered. Guided by the philosophy of Sir William Osler—“The good physician treats the disease; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease”—he strives to understand each patient’s story, values, and goals to create meaningful and effective treatment plans.

His passion for cardiology is rooted in personal experience. Born with congenital heart disease, Dr. Sohinki underwent open-heart surgery at age four, an experience that inspired his lifelong commitment to compassionate care.

Before joining SGMC Health, Dr. Sohinki served as Associate Professor of Medicine at the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, where he also directed the Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship and Cardiac Electrophysiology Research. He earned his medical degree from the University of Iowa, completed his residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and pursued fellowship training at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. He holds board certifications in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, Cardiovascular Disease, Internal Medicine, and Adult Comprehensive Echocardiography.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Sohinki enjoys running, swimming, tennis, and spending time with his wife Lucy and their son William.

In this episode of SGMC Health’s “What Brings You in Today?” podcast, meet the heart’s very own electrician! Dr. Daniel Sohinki shares how his own heart condition sparked a career in cardiology, and why he’s passionate about keeping hearts beating in perfect rhythm. We talk about what heart rhythm disorders really are, the red flags to watch for, and how today’s tech is changing the game in heart care. Plus, he dishes out practical lifestyle tips that can help you dodge heart trouble before it starts. It’s fascinating and full of heart-smart advice!

Raves

This was one of the best doctor experiences I have ever had. The staff was kind and friendly. The nurse was not rushed. She took time to do the workup while making me feel at ease. Dr. Sohinki was amazing. He took his time with me and got to know me. He was kind, and I felt like he cared about my health situation. He was an expert, and it showed. I have full confidence that I am in good hands.
