On Thursday, July 18, beginning at 6 pm, the telephone switch at South Georgia Medical Center’s Smith Northview Campus will be undergoing an upgrade process. Between 6pm Thursday and 2 am on Friday, July 19, numbers listed in the telephone directory (land-lines to Smith Northview) may be non-operational. The hospital’s back-up phone system, ESSX, which operates using a different set of telephone numbers, will be operational. Persons needing to reach the Smith Northview Campus Emergency Department Nurses Station should dial 242-0873 or the Medical-Surgical Nursing Station by dialing 242-5161. The upgrades to telephone technology are necessary to bring Smith Northview’s phones to a digital VoIP (or IP) format. An IP phone uses voice over Ethernet technology for placing and transmitting telephone calls. For more information on the phone outage or switch upgrade, contact SGMC’s Community Relations department at 229-259-4421.
