SGMC Recognizes Jones with BEE Award

Posted on: October 17th, 2023

South Georgia Medical Center honored Cora Jones, Patient Care Technician, with the October Being Extraordinary Everyday (BEE) Award.

Jones was nominated by a patient’s wife for her care and compassion during their hospital stay. The nomination describes how Jones went above and beyond to ensure that both the patient and caregiver were taken care of with the essentials once admitted.

According to the nomination, Jones made sure that the caregiver had eaten and found her a pillow and blanket to make her more comfortable. She also took great care to clean and bathe the patient before getting him situated for his overnight stay.

The caregiver describes Jones as an angel who helped her see that she is doing a good job caring for her husband and helped her not feel alone.

“We never know how something we say or do can make a difference for another person,” the caregiver shared.  “Mrs. Cora is that difference for me.”

The BEE Award is presented monthly and recognizes staff members who support the role of a nurse, which includes patient care technicians, nursing assistants, and medical assistants. Nomination criteria includes compassion, teamwork, leadership, attitude, and skills and knowledge.
