SGMC Recognizes Emergency Room Nurse as April DAISY Award Winner

Posted on: April 11th, 2022

Jesi Clanton, Registered Nurse at South Georgia Medical Center, was named the April DAISY Award recipient for extraordinary nursing care. Clanton has been with SGMC since 2018.

Clanton was nominated by Betsy Garland, a Hospice of South Georgia employee, who shared that Clanton went above and beyond to provide compassion for a family grieving the loss of a child with a terminal diagnosis.

The family expressed their deep gratitude for Clanton’s comforting words and support in their time of loss.

“Her care made this family feel like they were the only ones she was helping. That is exceptional!” expressed Garland.

According to the nomination, Clanton was moved to tears following the child’s passing.

“We often forget the emotional pain that comes with nursing,” said Garland.

SGMC continues to ask patients and fellow employees to honor nurses they feel go above and beyond in their actions and care. Nominations are reviewed by a committee based on criteria that include compassion, teamwork, leadership, attitude, and skills and knowledge.

DAISY awards are presented monthly in front of the nurse’s colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors. Each honoree receives a certificate commending her or him for being an “Extraordinary Nurse.” They also receive a beautiful sculpture called A Healer’s Touch, hand-carved by artists of the Shona Tribe in Africa.
