SGMC Planned Telephone Outage Needed for Switch Upgrade

Posted on: May 9th, 2013

On Thursday, June 6, the telephone switch at South Georgia Medical Center will be undergoing an upgrade process beginning at 10 PM.  Between 10 PM Thursday and 5 AM on Friday, June 7, numbers listed in the telephone directory (land-lines to SGMC) may be non-operational. The hospital’s back-up phone system, ESSX, which operates using a different set of telephone numbers, will be operational.  Callers may dial 229-259-7200 or 229-259-7201 to reach the main switchboard. Switchboard operators will then transfer callers to the ESSX line in the department or area requested. Referring physicians and out-of-town hospitals who are requesting transfers call still reach SGMC’s transfer center by dialing 229-259-4233.  The transfer center’s ESSX line 229-219-8692 will also be operational.  Cell phones and e-mail will be unaffected during the downtime. These hours were selected for the downtime to minimize disruption to our patients, physicians, and community.  The desire is to have the upgrade completed and the system fully functional by the start of business on June 7.   Thank you for your cooperation.  We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause. For more information, contact Community Relations at 229-259-4421 prior to the downtime.
