SGMC Health welcomes Internal Medicine physicians Brandon Rockwell, MD, and Justin Owens, DO, to the health system. Drs. Rockwell and Owens will see patients at SGMC Valdosta Medical Clinic in Valdosta beginning August 24.
As internists, Drs. Rockwell and Owens specialize in the prevention, diagnosis, and management of disease in adult patients. They provide comprehensive care to manage a variety of chronic conditions, such as hypertension, diabetes, heart disease, and respiratory illnesses. They also treat acute conditions and emphasize coordinated, patient-centered care through long-term relationships.
Dr. Rockwell focuses on building meaningful relationships with patients through listening, clear communication, and shared decision-making. He values understanding each patient’s individual concerns and priorities to provide care that supports their long-term health. “I’ve always been drawn to internal medicine because it allows me to really get to know my patients over time,” he said. “Some of the most rewarding moments are seeing someone make meaningful changes in their health and their life over months of working together.” Originally from Warner Robins, Dr. Rockwell earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia. He completed his residency training at SGMC Health and chose to continue practicing in Valdosta after developing a strong connection to the community.
Dr. Owens is committed to ensuring a connection with patients through trust and respect. “Being able to support patients during difficult times and walk alongside them through their care is one of the most meaningful parts of medicine for me,” he said. “I want my patients to feel heard, supported, and confident in the decisions we make together.” He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine and recently completed his residency at SGMC Health. Having grown up in Valdosta, he is excited to now practice in the community he calls home and continue serving patients across South Georgia.
Both physicians chose to continue their careers in Valdosta following residency, reflecting their commitment to the community and the role of SGMC Health’s Graduate Medical Education program in supporting access to care across the region.
Outside of work, Dr. Rockwell enjoys pickleball, reading, and spending time with his wife, Kara Hope. In his free time, Dr. Owens focuses on staying active and spending time with his wife, Caitlyn, and their two daughters, Birdie and Scout.
