SGMC Health welcomes Emergency Medicine physician Holli Spikes, DO, to its medical staff. A South Georgia native, Dr. Spikes returns home to provide emergency care for the community that played a significant role in shaping her life and career.
As an emergency medicine physician, Dr. Spikes is trained to evaluate, stabilize, and treat a wide range of urgent and life-threatening conditions, including heart attacks, strokes, and traumatic injuries. She performs critical procedures such as intubations and chest tube placement, as well as minor procedures like suturing, and has a special interest in pediatric emergency care.
“Coming home to Valdosta has always been the goal for me,” said Dr. Spikes. “When I chose medicine as a career, I knew I wanted to complete my training and return to the community that has poured so much into me over the years. These are the people who raised me, taught me, coached me, and supported me, and it is my greatest honor to care for them when they need me.”
Dr. Spikes earned her medical degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine in Suwanee, Georgia. Before attending medical school, she completed post-baccalaureate studies at Valdosta State University and earned a bachelor’s degree in Political Science with a minor in Public Health from the University of Georgia. Her educational journey, combined with her deep roots in South Georgia, fueled her desire to return to Valdosta and serve the region she has long called home.
Her postgraduate training began with a pediatric internship at Memorial Health University Medical Center in Savannah before she transitioned into Emergency Medicine at Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. There, she completed her residency training and was selected to serve as Chief Resident during the 2025-2026 academic year. Throughout her training, Dr. Spikes developed expertise in caring for patients of all ages and gained valuable leadership experience guiding fellow residents and supporting quality patient care initiatives.
In addition to treating patients, Dr. Spikes is committed to providing compassionate, patient-centered care during what is often one of the most difficult days in a person’s life. She strives to ensure every patient is treated with dignity, empathy, and respect, while helping patients and families feel supported throughout their care experience.
Being from the area allows Dr. Spikes to connect with patients in a unique way through shared experiences and community ties. She values building meaningful relationships with those she serves and considers it a privilege to care for her friends, neighbors, and fellow South Georgians.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Spikes enjoys spending time with her husband, Kevin, and their two children, Harrison and Eleanor. The family enjoys golfing, fishing, spending time on the water, and visiting the beach.
