SGMC Health is pleased to welcome Daniel Sohinki, MD, a board-certified cardiac electrophysiologist, to its expanding team of cardiovascular specialists. Dr. Sohinki will be seeing patients at SGMC Cardiac Electrophysiology, located at 2409 N Patterson St, Suite 340A, in Valdosta. He brings a wealth of expertise in diagnosing and treating complex heart rhythm disorders, offering patients in South Georgia access to advanced, life-changing cardiac care.

As a specialist in electrophysiology, Dr. Sohinki focuses on the electrical systems of the heart, treating conditions that cause it to beat too fast, too slow, or irregularly. His clinical expertise includes catheter ablation, a minimally invasive procedure that uses heat or cold energy to eliminate abnormal heart tissue, and device implantation of pacemakers and defibrillators. He is also specially trained in lead extraction, a complex procedure performed in collaboration with cardiac surgeons to remove malfunctioning or infected device components.

Dr. Sohinki’s approach to care is deeply personal and patient-centered. “Sir William Osler once said, ‘The good physician treats the disease; the great physician treats the patient who has the disease.’ That philosophy guides every patient interaction I have,” said Dr. Sohinki. “I strive to understand each patient’s story, values, and goals so we can create a treatment plan that’s not only effective but meaningful.”

His passion for cardiology is rooted in personal experience. Born with congenital heart disease, Dr. Sohinki underwent open-heart surgery at the age of four. “Despite the seriousness of my condition, I was never afraid of doctors. In fact, I wanted to become one,” he shared. “That speaks to the power of compassionate care, and it’s what I aim to provide every day.”

Dr. Sohinki joins SGMC Health from the Medical College of Georgia at Augusta University, where he served as Associate Professor of Medicine, Program Director of the Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology Fellowship, and Director of Cardiac Electrophysiology Research. He completed his medical degree at the University of Iowa, residency at UT Southwestern Medical Center, and fellowship at the University of Oklahoma Health Sciences Center. He is board-certified in Clinical Cardiac Electrophysiology, Cardiovascular Disease, Internal Medicine, and Adult Comprehensive Echocardiography.

Outside of medicine, Dr. Sohinki enjoys running, swimming, tennis, and spending time with his wife Lucy and their six-year-old son, William. The family is excited to make Valdosta their home and reconnect with close family friends, including Arleen Ramirez, MD, a fellow cardiologist at SGMC Health and William’s godmother.

“SGMC Health impressed me with its commitment to high-quality, innovative care and its vision for growth,” said Dr. Sohinki. “I’m honored to join this dynamic team and contribute to advancing heart care in our community.”
