SGMC Health Nationally Recognized for Cardiac Care for Eleventh Consecutive Year

Posted on: August 7th, 2025
Members of SGMC Health’s Resuscitation Outcomes Committee, represented by departments across the health system, celebrate receiving the AHA’s 2025 Get With The Guidelines® Resuscitation Gold award.

For the eleventh year in a row, SGMC Health has been recognized by the American Heart Association (AHA) with the Get With The Guidelines® Resuscitation Gold quality achievement award. This prestigious distinction reflects SGMC Health’s unwavering commitment to providing evidence-based, life-saving care to patients experiencing in-hospital cardiac arrest.

According to the AHA, each year, more than 300,000 adults and children in the United States experience cardiac arrest while hospitalized. Survival in these high-stakes moments depends heavily on timely intervention and the effective use of CPR by trained emergency response teams.

The Get With The Guidelines® Resuscitation program is designed to help hospitals consistently follow the latest research-based protocols to improve outcomes. These include timely medical emergency team activation, high-quality resuscitation, patient safety protocols, and comprehensive post-resuscitation care.

“Receiving this award for the eleventh consecutive year is a powerful testament to the dedication, training, and exceptional care delivered by our clinical teams,” said Pankaj Agrawal, MD, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at SGMC Health. “Our consistent recognition demonstrates our commitment to using best practices that improve survival and recovery for our patients.”

SGMC Health serves as a Level I Emergency Cardiac Care Center, offering the region’s most advanced heart care. It is home to South Georgia’s only open-heart program, as well as a structural heart and valve center and a cutting-edge cardiac electrophysiology program—all recognized by the American College of Cardiology and the American Heart Association for excellence in cardiovascular care.
