SGMC Health Honors Edwards with BEE Award

Posted on: October 23rd, 2025

SGMC Health recognized Caitlin Edwards, Health Unit Coordinator in the SGMC Health Smith Northview Emergency Department, as the recipient of the Being Extraordinary Everyday (BEE) Award for October. This prestigious honor celebrates non-nursing staff members who demonstrate exceptional dedication, teamwork, and compassion in support of SGMC Health’s nursing teams.

According to the nomination, Edwards exemplified the spirit of the BEE Award when she noticed a patient waiting to be registered who was experiencing severe chest pain. Acting swiftly and with remarkable intuition, she escorted the patient directly into a room and completed the intake process there. Thanks to her quick thinking and decisive action, the patient received a test that revealed a life-threatening condition requiring immediate intervention.

Edwards’ ability to recognize the urgency of the situation and expedite care was instrumental in ensuring the patient received the critical treatment they needed without delay.

The BEE Award is presented monthly to recognize non-nursing staff members, including patient care technicians, nursing assistants, and medical assistants, who exemplify extraordinary dedication, teamwork, and compassion in supporting the nursing staff. Nominees are evaluated based on leadership, attitude, and clinical support skills.

SGMC Health offers a variety of recognition programs to honor employees who most exemplify the tagline, “Remarkable People, Extraordinary Care, Human Kindness.” To learn more about the BEE Award and other recognition programs, visit sgmc.org/recognition.
