SGMC Health honored Carly Cooper, RN, Labor & Delivery nurse, as the latest recipient of the DAISY Award, an international recognition celebrating nurses who exemplify compassionate care, clinical excellence, and an unwavering commitment to their patients and colleagues.
Cooper, who has been with the health system for 5 years, was nominated by a grateful patient who shared how her care provided reassurance during a stressful hospital visit. The patient had been sent by her obstetrician to be monitored for symptoms during her pregnancy. She shared that the unit was incredibly busy during her stay, but Cooper never made her feel rushed or forgotten. Instead, she offered individualized attention, ensured accurate monitoring, and kept her informed after every update from the physician. She consistently returned when she said she would, even amid a demanding workload, and took time to explain what was happening so the patient felt safe and cared for.
“I only had to be monitored for a few hours, but just in that time, she left a lasting imprint on my heart,” shared the patient. “I will forever be thankful for her giving me the reassurance and care I needed. I pray that when the time comes for me to deliver my baby, she will be on the schedule that day and assigned to me.”
The DAISY Award is presented monthly in front of the nurse’s colleagues, physicians, patients, and visitors. Each honoree receives a certificate of recognition, a hand-carved sculpture titled A Healer’s Touch from the Shona Tribe in Zimbabwe, and a floral arrangement of daisies, generously donated by The Flower Gallery, SGMC Health’s local DAISY Award sponsor.
SGMC Health offers a variety of recognition programs to honor employees who embody its tagline of Remarkable People, Extraordinary Care, Human Kindness. To learn more about these awards and other recognition programs, visit sgmc.org/recognition.
