The SGMC Health Foundation is proud to announce its latest investment in advanced medical technology with the addition of a state-of-the-art cardiac ultrasound machine, the Philips EPIQ CVx, at SGMC Health Smith Northview.

Since reopening emergency and acute-care services at Smith Northview Campus in January of 2023, the hospital has experienced record volumes, creating a need for additional imaging.

Echocardiography, the cornerstone of cardiac imaging, plays a pivotal role in the assessment and management of various cardiac diseases. Echos are a common, non-invasive diagnostic procedure often ordered when patients are experiencing chest pain or shortness of breath. Demand for this imaging has surged due to an aging population with long-term health conditions.

The new machine represents a quantum leap forward in cardiac ultrasound technology, offering unparalleled advancements in functionality and performance. Designed with precision and innovation, it empowers sonographers and clinicians to deliver superior care through its higher processing power, exceptional imaging capabilities, and enhanced exam efficiencies.

Tom Gonzalez, Echo Lab Supervisor at SGMC Health, expressed his enthusiasm for the new addition, stating, “We are so grateful to the SGMC Health Foundation for funding this modern equipment for our team and the patients we serve. This technology will provide exceptional image quality and enhanced data that can change patient outcomes and shorten a patient’s length of stay.”

“Investing in advanced medical technology is at the heart of our mission to support the work of the health system,” shared Hayden Hancock, SGMC Health Foundation Board Chair. “Funding important priorities such as this $150,000 machine ensures that SGMC Health stays at the forefront of healthcare innovation and provides extraordinary care to our patients.”

Expanding access to imaging further enhances the health system’s capabilities to provide comprehensive cardiac care to patients in the region. This is one of two new cardiac ultrasound machines utilized.  The other is located inside SGMC Health’s Dasher Heart Center at its main campus.
