Front row L to R: Dr. Gill, Dr. Mandal, Dr. Anucha
SGMC Health continues to enhance gastroenterological care for patients across South Georgia and North Florida, recently welcoming two highly skilled GI physicians: C. Allen Woods, MD, and Riaz Gill, MD, to its medical staff. They join gastroenterologists Jeff Anucha, MD; Amrendra Mandal, MD; Maria Castellano, MD; and general surgeons David Retterbush, MD, and Harold Howe, MD, who specialize in GI care.
Dr. Woods will see patients at SGMC Gastroenterology located at 3230 Wildwood Plantation Drive, and Dr. Gill will serve as a GI hospitalist, providing care to patients at SGMC Health’s main campus.
“Expanding our gastroenterology team with Dr. Woods and Dr. Gill elevates our ability to deliver advanced, timely GI care across the region,” shared Pankaj Agrawal, MD, Senior Vice President and Chief Medical Officer at SGMC Health. “Their complementary roles strengthen continuity from clinic to hospital, ensuring patients receive the highest level of quality and experience.”
Gastroenterologists focus on the prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of disorders affecting the digestive system, including gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), liver and pancreatic disorders, and gastrointestinal cancers. They also perform advanced endoscopic procedures such as upper endoscopies and colonoscopies, which play a vital role in the early detection and prevention of colorectal cancer.
In addition to a comprehensive team of physicians, SGMC Health’s Smith Northview campus, located in North Valdosta, features a state-of-the-art GI Center for outpatient procedures and surgeries.
The U.S. Preventive Services Task Force recommends that adults aged 45 to 75 undergo regular colorectal cancer screening. Individuals should consult their primary care physician about when to begin screening, which test is appropriate, and how often to be tested.
