Dr. Maydell is a board-certified psychiatrist specializing in child and adolescent psychiatry at SGMC Psychiatry. With a compassionate, patient-centered approach, Dr. Maydell provides comprehensive mental health care for pediatric patients aged 0 to 17 years. Dr. Maydell treats a wide range of mental health conditions affecting young people, including ADHD, autism spectrum disorder, anxiety, depression, obsessive-compulsive disorder, PTSD, mood disorders, eating disorders, and psychosis. He also addresses complex diagnostic challenges, behavioral problems, learning disabilities, substance use disorders, and issues related to self-harm, aggression, and academic or social difficulties.
Dr. Maydell earned his medical degree and completed his internship at the University of Pretoria in South Africa. He went on to complete his General Psychiatry residency training at the Loyola University Program and his fellowship in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at the University of Illinois.
At SGMC Psychiatry, Dr. Maydell works as part of a multidisciplinary team dedicated to delivering seamless, coordinated mental health care. As a credentialed provider at SGMC Health, he is able to support his patients even during hospital stays, ensuring continuity and collaboration across care settings.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Maydell has a diverse range of interests, including computer technology, scuba diving, snorkeling, sailing, and Latin and ballroom dancing. He is also actively involved in Scouts and values community engagement and youth development.
