Dr. Matthew Brown is an infectious disease specialist who cares for patients in both hospital and clinic settings. Infectious disease physicians diagnose, treat, and help prevent a wide range of infections caused by bacteria, viruses, fungi, and parasites. They manage complex cases such as sepsis, HIV, respiratory infections, and post-surgical infections, and often collaborate with other specialists to provide comprehensive care.
Dr. Brown is board certified in Internal Medicine and completed fellowship training in Infectious Disease at the University of Maryland. He earned his medical degree from Saba University School of Medicine and completed his Internal Medicine residency at MedStar Harbor Hospital in Maryland.
Before pursuing medicine, Dr. Brown explored other career paths. Coming from a medical family, he initially studied mathematics and earned an MBA in marketing. His experience as a pharmaceutical representative ultimately inspired him to follow his passion for medicine. When asked what attracted him to infectious disease, Dr. Brown shared that it is one of the few specialties where diseases can be cured. He appreciates the field’s diversity, its constant evolution, and the excitement of working in a specialty that impacts patients of all ages, races, and genders.
Outside of medicine, he enjoys music—having played in numerous bands—staying active, and exploring new cuisines.
