Dr. Eric Stiefel is a Sports Medicine Fellowship Trained Orthopaedic Surgeon specializing in minimally invasive arthroscopic surgery and disorders of the shoulder, elbow, knee and hip.  He offers advanced surgical techniques available for management of common orthopaedic injuries which may affect patients of all ages and activity levels, from the elite athlete to the weekend sports enthusiast.

Dr. Stiefel is a graduate of Valdosta High School (1998) and Valdosta State University (2003).  At Valdosta State University, he was a member of the VSU Baseball team (1999-2003) and graduated Cum Laude with a Bachelor’s degree in Biology (2003).  He earned his medical degree from the Medical College of Georgia (2007).  Following medical school, he continued his medical training, specializing in Orthopaedic Surgery at the University of Florida (2007-2012).

While at the University of Florida, Dr. Stiefel had the opportunity to work with Florida medical community on several public health initiatives aimed at improving patient access to orthopaedic care.  As a resident physician, he was instrumental in developing a health care policy education program for resident physicians and received national recognition for his efforts in this arena [1] [2] [3].  During this time, he also served as a member of the Florida Orthopaedic Society’s Political Actions and Legislative Committees.  Dr. Stiefel was the first resident physician to achieve these committee assignments (2010-2012).

In his final year of residency, Dr. Stiefel was selected by his colleagues to serve as administrative chief resident for the department of orthopaedic surgery.  That year he participated in the ACGME Leadership program, and received both the Rosilie O. Saffos Scholarship for the resident-teacher of the Year (2011-2012), and the Marshall HorowitzAward for the Most Outstanding Orthopaedic resident (2012) [4] [5].

After completing residency, Dr. Stiefel participated in the combined Mississippi Sports Medical Center and Tulane University Sports Medicine fellowship program (2012-2013), where he trained under renowned shoulder and elbow surgeons Larry Field, M.D. and Felix Savoie III, M.D. [6].  From 2013-2015, Dr. Stiefel served as the Arthroscopy Association of North America selected Health Care Policy Fellow and was a member of the Health Care Policy Committee. While serving as the AANA health policy fellow, Dr. Stiefel worked on several initiatives aimed at advocating for the orthopedic patients’ access to the highest quality care.  Dr. Stiefel currently serves as Chief of the department of orthopedic surgery and is a member of the Medical executive Committee at South Georgia Medical Center. Dr. Stiefel has also served in numerous administrative roles in national and international medical societies.  Currently he is serving on, the GOS membership committee, the AAOS CCR Committee, the AAOS Clinical practice guidelines committee, and is the chairman of the Advocacy Committee for the Arthroscopy Association of North America.  Dr. Stiefel has also published numerous articles in peer reviewed journal and medical text.

Dr. Stiefel is a board-certified orthopedic surgeon and recognized as a designated arthroscopic leader (DAL) by the Arthroscopy Association of North America. He is a native of Valdosta Georgia.  He is married to Samantha has four children: Sarah Kathryn (10), Peyton Lynne (8), and JR(5), and John (1).
