Cardiac Rehabilitation Program at SGMC Health Recertified by Industry Leader

Posted on: April 11th, 2024

SGMC Health is proud to announce the recertification of its cardiovascular rehabilitation program by the American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) for another 3 years. This certification recognizes SGMC Health for its commitment to improving the quality of life by continuing to enhance standards of care.

Cardiac rehab is a vital step for people who are recovering from coronary heart disease, heart attacks, bypass surgery, and many other heart conditions.

According to the American Heart Association, each year around 935,000 Americans have a coronary event, and more than 30 percent will have a second potentially more fatal event. Cardiac rehab helps reduce the risk of having another cardiac occurrence through exercise, education, counseling, and healthy eating.

“Our goal in cardiac rehab is to improve patients’ exercise tolerance, energy, and overall health. We work to help reduce the risk of cardiac problems reoccurring in the future. I urge patients to stick with their cardiac rehabilitation program and they will begin to see its life-changing benefits. We are truly grateful to be able to offer our region these services,” says Mary Ann Griffith, Patient Care Coordinator.

SGMC Health’s cardiac rehab program includes both inpatient and outpatient care that encourages lifestyle modifications. Programs can last anywhere from 6-18 weeks depending on a patient’s condition and covered services.

Cardiac rehab is just one component of comprehensive cardiovascular care. SGMC Health has the region’s only open-heart program, structural heart and valve center, and cardiac electrophysiology program. For more information, visit sgmc.org.
