You care for your family, let us care for you.

The unfortunate fact is 1 in 8 women will be diagnosed with breast cancer. But there’s good news—at SGMC, we offer quality, compassionate care for prevention, diagnosis, and treatment. All of this available right here in South Georgia, so you don’t have to travel… and you can spend more time with your family.

There is no sure way to prevent breast cancer. But there are things you can do that might lower your risk, such as changing risk factors that are under your control. Breast cancer is sometimes found after symptoms appear, but many women with breast cancer have no symptoms. This is why regular breast cancer screening is so important.

In regards to breast cancer, mammography is an important component for early detection. And if you are a woman over 40, it’s recommended that you have a mammogram every year.

SGMC’s Smith Northview Campus in North Lowndes, and Berrien Campus in Nashville, offer convenience and extended hours to receive your mammogram.

Schedule your mammogram by calling 229-259-4854.

Should your screening or mammogram indicate that you may have breast cancer, you will probably need to have a biopsy (which doesn’t necessarily mean you have cancer). During a biopsy, a doctor removes small pieces from the suspicious area to be looked at in the lab to see if they contain certain cancer cells.

SGMC’s team of surgical experts specialize in biopsies, surgical oncology, and reconstructive surgery.

If you receive a positive breast cancer diagnosis, the Pearlman Cancer Center at SGMC is your partner in this journey. Aside from the qualified team of physicians, nurse navigators, and support staff, the Center is Accredited by the Commission on Cancer and equipped with the most advanced treatment technology available. Learn more about Pearlman here, or watch the video to hear from one of our breast cancer survivors.
