Beginning Saturday, October 4, a portion of Woodrow Wilson Drive at the intersection of Slater Street will be closed for approximately two weeks due to underground utility work associated with SGMC Health’s Main Campus Expansion Project.
During this time, patients seeking emergency care should access the Emergency Department via Cowart Avenue off of Ashley Street. The City of Valdosta will have a detour in place, and motorists are advised to use caution when traveling in the area.
Inpatients, outpatients, and visitors should continue to enter the hospital through the main entrance off Pendleton Drive or via the parking deck.
This roadwork is part of SGMC Health’s transformative Main Campus Expansion Project, which includes the construction of a new three-story Women and Infants Tower. The facility will offer comprehensive care from prenatal to postnatal stages in a modern, nurturing environment. Additionally, the expansion will feature a new Emergency Department and Level III Trauma Center, designed to meet the region’s most critical healthcare needs.
Construction is scheduled for completion in late 2026, and SGMC Health remains fully operational throughout the duration of the project.
