A native of Valdosta, Dr. Courson is deeply connected to the community and is passionate about delivering empathetic, patient-centered care.
Inspired by his mother, retired OBGYN Dr. Ellen Courson, and guided by exceptional mentors throughout his medical training, Dr. Courson chose Internal Medicine for its complexity and the opportunity to build lasting relationships with his patients. He believes that the foundation of exceptional care lies in trust, empathy, and meaningful time spent with each individual.
Dr. Courson earned his undergraduate degree from the University of Georgia and completed his medical education at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He went on to complete his residency in Internal Medicine at St. Mary’s Hospital in Athens, Georgia.
He is proud to be part of SGMC Health, where he values the organization’s commitment to supporting physicians and delivering high-quality care. Dr. Courson treats every patient like family and considers it an honor to be involved in their care, especially during life’s most challenging moments.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Courson enjoys Georgia football, Atlanta Braves baseball, and spending time with his wife, Hannah, and their four children.
