Cancer patients at South Georgia Medical Center’s Pearlman Cancer Center received a special visit from members of the Holy Trinity Triple Negative Breast Cancer Society (HTTN) last week. Members traveled from Louisiana delivering quilted blankets handmade from donated fabric. Louisiana resident Charlene Berry was diagnosed with cancer in 2013.

During her treatment, Berry received a quilt from a loved one which garnered great attention from other patients. Berry then made it her mission to share that happiness to all cancer patients one stitch at a time. Berry founded HTTN and volunteers quickly joined in her mission. People from all over the nation began donating pieces of fabric to craft the blankets.

Cindy Champagne and Robben Karr found the organization on Facebook and sought to help with the effort, even SGMC’s very own Valentine Brown joined in the cause.SGMC Community Relations Intern Jesse Taylor facilitated the presentation saying, “These strong women shared a desire to not only raise awareness but bring hope and strength to those who may be fighting cancer.” He continued, “Seeing each patient’s joy from receiving such a thoughtful gift was very rewarding; their smiles were contagious.

This was the first time members from the group personally traveled to deliver the blankets. For more information on HTTN, visit httnbreastcancer.org.
