Obstetrics
At SGMC we believe that your child’s birth is an event to be cherished for a lifetime. We have the privilege of welcoming babies for the past twenty-five years with an average of 2,000 babies each year. Each family is unique, so is each birth. Our staff at the Birthplace strives to provide a safe and nurturing birth experience for each family based on their individual needs.
When you are expecting a child, there are so many decisions to make. Most importantly will be choosing your obstetrician and where you will deliver. The obstetrics team members at South Georgia Medical Center are committed to providing quality care, providing you with everything you need to prepare for this important time in your life.
The Birthplace prides itself on state-of-the art equipment, beautiful and spacious rooms and most importantly its friendly and competent nursing staff. Our staff continues to exceed patient satisfaction goals both in Labor and Delivery, Post Partum and on our Pediatric wing. All of our nurses are certified by the Neonatal Resuscitation Program, Stable, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and the majority are certified in obstetrics. Our family – centered approach to the birthing experience allows the family to be involved in the birth experience, but allows the staff to keep mother and baby as the top priority.
In the event that your baby is in need of extra care or treatment, SGMC is equipped with a Level II Nursery where our neonatologist, Dr. Chris Young and pediatric nurses are able to give specialized for premature and sick infants. By working with obstetricians to develop a delivery plan, the neonatal staff is able to provide the best possible care for both mother and baby. The SGMC Neonatology department is able to provide intensive monitoring and complex medical decision making immediately, in addition to keeping the baby close to home. Infants cared for in the Neonatology department meet the approved guidelines for Level II Neonatal Intensive Care set forth by the American Academy of Pediatrics Section on Perinatal Pediatrics.
