Bronchoscopy
Bronchoscopy is a procedure in which the pulmonologist can see the inside of the airways for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes allowing for the examination of your airways for abnormalities such as foreign bodies, bleeding, tumors or inflammation. During bronchoscopy, the physician can visually examine the airways for tumors, obstructions, secretions or foreign bodies, diagnose disease processes, remove foreign bodies, mucous plugs or excessive secretions, locate the site and cause of bleeding, and treat malignant airway obstructions.
A bronchoscopy will require moderate sedation and a short recovery period. You should expect to spend three to four hours in the Endoscopy department.
If you are scheduled for a bronchoscopy, you will need to get instructions from the performing physician’s office.
