SGMC Opens Occupational & Industrial Medicine Center and Primary Care Center

South Georgia Medical Center's Occupational & Industrial Medicine Center and Primary Care Center opens Monday, January 18th at 520 Griffin Avenue. New construction totaling 5,600 square feet was added to the former Convenient Care South facility doubling square footage and capacity. The west end of the building is for occupational and industrial medicine, and the east end of the facility is for primary care. Separate entrances make it easy to differentiate where patients should go.

The Occupational & Industrial Medicine Center (O/IMC) will operate Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.  It is the only facility in town that is totally dedicated to occupational and industrial medicine-pre-employment physicals, treating workplace injuries (Workman's Comp), substance abuse testing, etc.

People gather outside the new Occupational and Industrial Medicine Center during the
Lowndes - Valdosta Chamber Business After Hours on January 14th.

The Primary Care Center, which will operate like a private physician's practice, will be open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.  The Primary Care Center is not a free clinic and patients will be expected to pay insurance co-pays or deposits at the time of discharge, similar to a physician's office.

Dr. James Eutzler, a board certified emergency physician with over 25 years experience, will oversee the care provided in both occupational medicine and primary care.  A team of veteran healthcare professionals including Physician's Assistant Dan Ayers, PAC and Nurse Practitioner Andree Shackelford, RN, MSN, CEN, FNP-C will assist Dr. Eutzler.

The design of the facility and its adjacent parking areas incorporate many conveniences that were lacking previously. Semi-truck parking is on-site for commercial haulers who need to make quick stops to undergo drug screens and DOT physicals.

For patients seeking to establish a relationship with a primary care provider, the Primary Care Center will provide a full continuum of care for persons with diabetes, hypertension, and other chronic diseases. The Primary Care Center will also provide episodic care for respiratory infections, stomach aches, etc.

For more information on the services offered, call the Center's administrative coordinator, Mary Laura Norman, RN at 249-4010.

Dan Ayers, PA-C and Andree Shackelford, NP-C speak with Sgt. 1st Class Betty Moore during
the Business After Hours.
