The Mobile Health Care Services Department at SGMC is a vital link between the community and our Emergency Department. MHCS is the 911 provider of emergency services in Lowndes and Echols counties. Ambulance stations are strategically situated in five locations throughout Lowndes County to better serve the residents in the two counties.
In addition, MHCS provides routine emergency and non-emergency transfer services to our community - including ambulance, critical care and ambulatory/wheelchair support.
The MHCS facilities and ambulances have the latest technology and recently began conducting 12-lead EKGs in the field. The EKGs are transmitted from the field or ambulance to the Chest Pain Center at SGMC Emergency Department by radio, telephone or cellular device using Rosetta technology. If an EKG represents an acute heart attack, a STEMI alert is initiated by paramedics from the field and notifies staff at SGMC that an incoming patient may be having a heart attack.
MHCS staffs 5 advanced life-support (ALS) ambulances 24-hours a day, 7 days a week. Two additional ALS ambulances are staffed throughout the week to primarily provide inter-facility and non-emergency transport. These 2 additional units also provide back-up response to 911 calls when available.
