Rehabilitation Services

At South Georgia Medical Center, our goal is to assist adult patients with a variety of impairments, functional limitations and disabilities to achieve their highest level of independence. We offer individualized, comprehensive Rehabilitation Care to our patients.

Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit

Our Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit provides comprehensive medical rehabilitation through a team-treatment approach to patient care. Our 24-bed Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit is located on the second floor (2North) within South Georgia Medical Center. We provide comprehensive individualized medical rehabilitation services for adult patients to gain their highest functional independence in order to return to the community.  Learn more ->

Patients receiving care in the Inpatient Rehabilitation Unit are recovering from, but not limited to:

  • Stroke
  • Brain Injury
  • Neuropathy and Myopathy
  • Spinal Cord Injury
  • Peripheral Nerve Injury
  • Multiple Trauma
  • Hip Fractures and Replacements
  • Amputations
  • Polyarthritis
  • Severe or Advanced Osteoarthritis
  • Guillain-Barre’
  • Multiple Sclerosis
  • Parkinson’s Disease
  • Cancer (PCC)

Hospital-Based Rehabilitation Services

Hospital-Based therapy services are provided to patients in the medical and surgical units of South Georgia Medical Center needing therapeutic services. Therapies include physical, occupational and speech-language therapies. Our therapists work together with case managers, social workers, acute care nursing staff, physicians and family members to evaluate a patient’s current condition and determine subsequent level of rehabilitation care. Therapists help patients gain back their previous functional status as well as refer them to the next appropriate rehabilitative level of care.

Outpatient Rehabilitation

South Georgia Medical Center’s Outpatient Rehabilitation Department provides services by Speech Language Pathologists for cancer patients who have swallowing difficulties after head and neck cancer as well as Modified Barium Swallow Studies for anyone with swallowing difficulties or suspicion of swallowing disorders. Speech Language Pathologist will evaluate the need for follow up speech therapy. We also provide Physical Therapy Whirlpool Treatments for our Wound Care patients on an outpatient basis.

Monday – Saturday 12noon – 1pm and 4pm – 8:30pm | Sunday 10am – 8:30pm

Hospital-Based Rehabilitation
Monday - Friday 8am  5pm | Saturday and Sunday 8am - 4:30pm

Outpatient Rehabilitation

Monday – Friday
ST:   8:30am – 5pm (MBS Studies/Cancer Patients) | PT:  8:30am – 5pm (Wound Care only)
