Winners Announced in Doctors Day People’s Choice Awards

South Georgia Medical Center hosted its annual Doctors Day breakfast at its SMITH Northview and Main campuses on Friday, March 30. Hosted by the Medical Affairs department, the breakfast recognized the hardworking physicians who provide medical care in our community 365 days a year. The highlight of the breakfast was the announcement of the Doctors Day Peoples’ Choice awards.

Hospital staff members voted on-line for their favorite physicians in the following categories. Dr. Willy Saurina was selected the Doctor’s Doctor. This honor was bestowed by his peers on the medical staff for upholding the medical profession with best practices, professionalism, integrity and honor. Winners in other categories were:

BEST SENSE OF HUMOR, Gregory Beale, MD; FRIENDLIEST, Felix Valdez, MD; QUIETEST, Jasbir Gill, MD; BEST DRESSED, K.G. Kumar, MD; MOST PUNCTUAL, Arunas Urbonas, MD; BEST BEDSIDE MANNER, John Anderson, MD; MOST COMPASSIONATE, Felix Valdez, MD; BEST HANDWRITING, David Parker, MD; MOST PROFESSIONAL, George Pennington, MD; BEST LOOKING, Eric Anderson, MD. The first Doctor’s Day observance was March 30, 1933 in Winder, Georgia. Eudora Brown Almond, wife of Dr. Charles B. Almond, decided to set aside a day to honor physicians.

The red carnation is commonly used as the symbolic flower for National Doctors Day.
