The Cancer Survivorship Kit produced by the Pearlman Cancer Center was recognized by the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons as a best practice model for community cancer center survivorship programs across the nation. According to kit co-developer Mary Ann Heddon, RN, MSN, the kit provides all the tools needed to bring a model survivorship program into non-academic cancer centers.

The kit contains brochures for patients completing treatment, Powerpoint presentations, videos, outlines for survivorship workshops, needs assessments and templates for treatment summaries and care planning, to name a few. Community Cancer Centers are now required to offer survivorship programs to meet the 2012 Program Standards of the Commission on Cancer of the American College of Surgeons.

The staff at the Pearlman Cancer Center recognized the need for a survivorship program years ago. Today, the kit they created is a resource for cancer educators everywhere. The kit is a complete package of educational, program, and clinical materials designed to help Community Cancer Centers develop quality survivorship services for their patients completing treatment.
