On Thursday, September 26th, South Georgia Medical Center held its annual Clinical Advancement Program (CAP) Banquet for nurses at Covington’s. The CAP program was designed to support the professional goals of the direct patient care registered nurse at SGMC and enhance the model of professional nursing. The program provides the opportunity for expansion of the registered nurse role, for improvement of patient outcomes and for the achievement of organizational goals.

The program was built on the mission and vision of SGMC and with the SGMC Philosophy of Nursing and nursing departmental goals. Benner’s model, Novice to Expert, was used as the basis for the program development as well as the American Nurses Association (ANA) model for recognition of Magnet Hospital status.

The goals of the CAP program were to improve nursing job satisfaction, promote recruitment and retention of Registered Nurses, and validate the effectiveness of the nursing role.
