South Georgia Medical Center presented a $2,000 check to Second Harvest of South Georgia on Thursday, March 9 to aid relief efforts from the recent tornadoes impacting South Georgia. The administration and staff at SGMC were extremely touched by the devastation and wanted to do something to help. Not knowing exactly what was needed where, SGMC made a cash donation.

“SGMC responds to the health needs of our community 24/7. The affiliated physicians and staff came out in large numbers to meet the needs of those injured during the tragic weekend events. It was their concern for the families affected that inspired us to do more,” said Heath Evans, Interim Chief Executive Officer of SGMC. “This contribution is critical to our efforts and will allow us to distribute 8,000 pounds of food to those in need in our area,” said Eliza McCall, Chief Marketing Officer for Second Harvest of South Georgia.

According to McCall, there are still many individuals displaced and recovery efforts are likely to take up to a year.
