Posted on: January 23rd, 2015

Mr. Dick Dwozan, SGMC Berrien Campus Administrator, presented a check for $2,626 to Reynolds McLean of Nashville’s Anytime Fitness to implement the “Exercise Fits” program in our local community. Nashville, GA- In 2014, SGMC Berrien Campus requested Barlow McCarthy to conduct a Community Health Needs Assessment.  The discoveries from this report identified unmet community health needs in Berrien County.  Obesity was one of the health risk indicators identified in the research.  SGMC Berrien Campus is partnering with the local Anytime Fitness to help combat the issue of obesity among children and seniors.  The newly created program, “Exercise Fits,” is designed to provide exercise and education for two different underserved areas:  children and seniors.  The partnership allows Anytime Fitness to offer classes to the public free of charge.  Enrollment is on a first come, first serve basis and registration is required. The children’s class time will be devoted to exercise along with healthy diet education. Parents of the children who attend the classes are invited to attend with their child or they may choose to exercise in the facility during the designated class time.  The senior class is specifically designed for mature adults with a goal of safe and healthy exercise. The class is designed to help seniors have fun while increasing muscle strength, range of movement and daily living activities.   “We were really fortunate to partner with Anytime Fitness.  Reynolds McLean and Christi McCranie were very willing and eager to get involved and help combat this issue,” said Dick Dwozan, SGMC Berrien Campus administrator. “This is a great opportunity for healthcare and the private business sector to join forces for the betterment of our community.”For more information about this program, please call Anytime Fitness at 229.686.1888.
