Brian Sayre, MA and Creston Hulett, MDiv Valdosta, GA – Creston Hulett, MDiv, and Brian Sayre, MA, members of the Pastoral Care Department at South Georgia Medical Center, were recently awarded certificates for completing coursework in palliative care from California State University at San Marcos.

The nine-week palliative care program was developed to help hospital chaplains address the unique spiritual needs of patients and families who are struggling with chronic or terminal diseases. Not to be confused with Hospice, palliative care is comfort care that is provided to anyone with any chronic illness, regardless of life expectancy or age. SGMC began a palliative care program two years ago.

The chaplains are part of a multi-disciplinary team at SGMC that addresses the comprehensive care and medical management of the patient’s physical, psychosocial, emotional and spiritual needs. For more information, contact the Office of Pastoral Care at 433-4505.
